Hey CDCers,
We're having a busy week here at the CDC... 1. Our new hires start this week! Some of you will get the chance to meet Andrew, Megan, and Nick. I really appreciate the assistance that the CDC team members have given them during your shifts. I have a feeling they are going to catch on quick with all the help they are receiving. 2. WE ARE TAILGATING FRIDAY! As some of you may know, we are having a little tailgate in the office, as part of the Newhouse Spirit Competition to get ready for the Duke Game. All of you are welcome to come and join us with your Orange gear on! So, come see the office all decorated and get a little something to eat! Back to business... A few issues came to our attention when students make an appointment or come in with questions. When asking students about their appointment topic do a little investigation. Ask them what they would like to make an appointment about. If they are asking about internships, ask what in regards to internships. If it's about internships abroad, they should be redirected to the abroad office. If it about internships and credit, they need to go see their faculty adviser. If a student comes in and is looking for information concerning the NYC internship program, they should be redirected to 318 and ask to speaking Shelly Griffin. And as always... ASK IF THEY HAVE TAKEN THE SEMINAR. If they say yes, Kelly came into their class, or they watched the video, ask if they have made the necessary adjustments to their resume as the video instructs. Look over their resume and cover letter. By now the majority of you should have a good idea of what a "Newhouse CDC Resume" should look like. If it does not meet our standards, don't hesitate to say something. If you don't feel comfortable, that is what Kelly, Bridget, and I are here for. A lot of information, but this will help the office with creating more relevant appointments instead of filling times for questions that are directed elsewhere. I hope you all have a great week and we hope to see you all

Hello CDC Team,
I hope everyone survived their second week of classes. We have an exciting week ahead of us. As most of you have heard, we have hired three new work studies for this semester and one more for the Fall. Andrew, Megan and Nick will start training next week. I will also assign them to a social media website for the semester and pass along your email addresses to them. Something new this semester... When preparing for the Job Hunt Marathon Seminar this semester we you will see that their are two different color handouts in the My Career books. THEY ARE NOT THE SAME. When Kelly teaches the seminar, put the ORANGE handouts on the cart and when Bridget teaches the seminar, we will use the YELLOW handouts. Shift Workflow (especially closing)... During your shift, make sure you follow the CDC Specialist Workflow List. It will tell you everything that needs to be done for your shift. *Reminder to closing shift- Make sure you clean the Sip-n-Study area. We have had some Keurig malfunctions this week.* A big THANK YOU to Jeff who is currently putting in a lot of time on the Networking bulletin board! Next week we will be making flyers for some company visits, so there will be plenty of time to be creative! Make sure you read and initial the CDCNews on the front desk!!! Stay warm!!! Brittany Hey CDCers-
Welcome back to the Spring '14 semester! I hope everyone had a nice relaxing break. You all did an awesome job on our bulletin board! Thank you to everyone who put in a little something to make it come together! A few reminders and things that may have changed with the front desk operations: 1.) If you don't know an answer to a question, don't wing it, ASK! That's what we're here for! 2.) Do not give Kelly and Bridget's email out, even if a student is being push. Instead, take down the student's information and I will make sure that their issue is addressed 3.) Make sure you respond to every email in the nhcdc inbox. 4.) Read through the CDCNews on the front desk and initial it every week. I know I talked to some of you about the CDC's social media. I would love to keep the CDC updated and relevant on all of our social media websites and have one or two of our staff members posting weekly. S0, here's how I assigned the social media. If there's an issue please address me on your shift and we will work it out. Valerie (plus new hire)- Facebook Elaina (plus new hire)- Twitter Jeff and Losa- Youtube Whitney (plus new hire)- LinkedIn Shy and Sam- Pinterest I have some individual assignments for your social media project and we will discuss them during your shift. |
