CDCers,
Pretty soon you're going to come in for your shift and I won't be here and then you won't see me for about a month or so. It's OK. I'm just on maternity leave. When this happens, most likely unexpectedly, Bridget will be taking over and as most of you know... She's a bit tougher than me. :) Her biggest pet peeve is tardiness, especially with timesheets. The Tuesday night deadline will still be enforced; however Bridget may not be so kind with "Wednesday afternoon timesheets," so for this week let's have all seven of you send them in ON TIME. As some of you may have found out, we have quizzes for CDCNews. This is also a new weekly task that Bridget is going to carry on for me. All last week I watched students come in with questions about T. Howard, seminar locations and internship opportunity questions. Almost all of you fumbled through CDCNews to help answer their questions. You all initial CDCNews, leading me to believe that you read through it all and understand the information presented. Apparently, that's not the case. CDCNews is put out by this office, meaning, the CDC staff should be well acquainted with the information. I do not expect you guys to be able to resit CDCNews like a script, but when a student comes in looking for what room the Job Hunt Marathon is in... Come on. We need to step it up. If you guys do not want to take quizzes, I can give you a few suggestions to make them go away: 1.) Don't cheat when you are taking them. 2.) Read CDCNews, either at home or on your shift. 3.) Be able to assist students when they ask the easy questions, like where is this info session being held? 4.) Only initial CDCNews when you feel confident enough to help students with questions and pass the quiz. With that being said, CDCNews is a weekly newsletter. You're not going to get out of taking the quiz by putting the reading off. I promise. So for the remainder of this week let's focus on our shift duties and special projects. Don't cut corners during your shift and always ask if you are unsure. Some things to note in preperat: Bridget's cell: 315-664-3110 Bridget's office: 315-443-1913 - Brittany Hey y’all,
This is Tonya pretending to be Brittany and posting to this blog to let you all know about the LINKEDIN CHALLENGE! Each Monday I will be posting a challenge to the CDCNewhouse Internship Group on LinkedIn. The goal of this 7-week challenge is for students to explore LinkedIn and build a great student profile! Two students with the most points by the end will win a prize, to be announced and claimed at the end of the competition. Here’s where YOU come in! I will need everyone’s help to keep track of points. Some challenges will require submissions through LinkedIn and I will monitor those, but there are several challenges that involve students coming in and interacting with the CDC. For those challenges you will need to get the name of the student participant and enter the appropriate points in the Google Drive excel sheet “LinkedIn Challenge Fall 2014.” Every week I will post instructions for the challenges and the point values for each. I will also be sending social media blurbs that can be posted on all our sites. Please take the time to familiarize yourself with the challenge and encourage visitors and your friends to participate! The LinkedIn Challenge officially begins next week – Monday, Sept. 29. The first two weeks went by fast... I am so happy with the CDC Team's performance. Each shift is getting their assigned work completed when asked, you are all doing a great job with FileMakerPro, the office looks clean and neat at all times and each staff member is pulling their own weight. So, I only have a few things to share with everyone:
- Remember that the CDC is a working office. Kelly, Bridget and myself have a lot going on right now. Please try to keep distractions to a minimum and use inside voices. - As many of you heard in the training meeting, we are making a "Fashion Show" video. I use quotation marks because we're not walking a runway or modeling fashions on a step and repeat. We are having our "models" dress the part for different business scernarios. The scenarios will be relatable to Newhouse students, like what to wear to a networking event or a career fair. I know I have a few of you on board to participate in the video; however we still need more. If you feel comfortable being in the video and you have a versatile business wordrobe, it would be great to have more of the CDC staff involved. Let me know ASAP if you would like to volunteer. - Are you looking to pick up a shift for some extra $$? We are looking for two students to assist us with the Internship Fair. If you are interested, please expect to work from 1:30 to 3:30/4. As always, first come, first served, but it is always nice to have a few alternates just in case something comes up. - Are you reading CDCNews? If I just happened to give you a quiz one day could you pass it? I don't believe in "open book"... Make sure you read and initial CDCNews. I sit right behind the front desk. I know what you're doing. - If you feel that you could benefit from a little extra assistance with certain tasks in the CDC, such as, making an appointment or how to handle an alumni phone call, let me know. We can all use a little refresher from time to time. Until next time, keep up the good work and the positive attitudes! -Brittany |
