Thank you to everyone for working so hard this week! We are going through a lot of changes and I know switching gears from Judith's style to my style is overwhelming. Please know that you can come to me at any time with questions and/or concerns.
Going forward I would like Specialists to check-in with me before your shift so I can let you know the priorities I would like you to concentrate on during your shift. When you check in with me, it is important to let me know what special projects you are in charge of -- such as social media and what you typically do or plan to accomplish while on shift. The main priority is getting the Internship database fixed so the new person coming on board doesn't have to go through what we all are going through. And the binders/database will finally be something we won't be ashamed of having in the office. Remember the great incentives! The Specialist that has the most GREEN will win a $25 gift card to Yogurtland! The Specialist that has the most GREEN and RED will win not only wiin a $25 gift card to Yogurtland but an ADDITIONAL $25 gift card to Jimmy Johns. So a quick recap:
Reminder to those who close the CDC. When you put up the Sip-n-Study supplies be sure to put away the coffee that is on the shelf as well. HAPPENINGS Kelly will be doing the Resume & Letter seminar on Wednesday from 11-12 AND she will be doing the Job Hunt on Thursday from 2-4. Wednesday, October 23rd will be the Gannett and USA Today Info session from 6-8 p.m. Interviews will be on Thursday, October 24th. Students have until 4 p.m. ON MONDAY (10/21) to submit a resume and cover letter to Kelly. Students will be notified if they were selected for an interview BEFORE the info session on Wednesday. If they didn't hear anything before Wednesday, encourage them to go the info session to meet the reps! I always tell students that recruiters only have limited amount of spots! They may want to talk to you, but just didn't have time on their schedule so be sure to go and network!!! They could end up with a great contact or an interview! I am going to be in late on Monday morning due to a doctors appointment and will be taking Monday, October 28th off. Take good care of Kelly on Monday. Again, I can't thank you all enough for everything you do to make the office run smoothly and to keep Kelly and I sane.

Hello everyone! I am going to try and continue the tradition of the blog. This should be interesting. HA!
Here is the scoop -- since we are in transition you all will have to put up with me. Lucky. I am going to be pulling double duty and that means I will be a wee bit crazy busy trying to juggle everything. So. Thank you in advance for your patience and keeping the CDC running smoothly as possible. A few things -- Kelly and I would like to ask that appointments are not made before a student attends a seminar. The student is to attend the seminar first, then come back to the CDC to schedule an appointment. This is particularly important for job/networking appointments. I am going to be bringing back an old tradition of requiring all Specialist to read CDCNews and initial. There will be a hard copy at the front desk on Thursday. Everyone is to read CDCNews and put their initial on the front page. This week: Kelly will doing the Internship seminar on Wednesday from 4 p.m. - 5 p.m. Bridget will be holding drop-in's on Friday. Last, but not least...we will be doing a huge overhaul of the internship database. Try and contain your excitement. I will be meeting with everyone on how this is going to be accomplished. It will take a lot of work, but we can do it!!!! OH!!! I lied. One more thing. How about a CDC potluck to celebrate Thanksgiving? We are thinking early November. Hello! I hope you all had a fun weekend! I will be in and out of the office most of the week using some "use it or lose it" paid time off to get my life together before I leave. I will be out of the office today and will keep you posted on my schedule this week via email. I'm still reviewing internship profiles so please hold off on making any edits or filing the ones you created. I plan to have these done by Wednesday at the latest. Judith PS- If you see me smiling on a flight I may be thinking of this! LOL. Sushi Dinner @ Bleu MonkeyHighlights Tuesday- Job Hunt Marathon Wednesday- Interviewing Preparation Thursday- Resume & Cover Letter Writing Bridget will do Quick Counsel. Dropbox Items If students stop by and their items aren't ready, please do the following: -Ask them when they dropped if off. If it's been more than 2 business days... -Ask them to write down their name, email and what they dropped off. (Make sure you can read their handwriting before they leave!) -Then email the counselors something like this: Hello, __________ stopped by to pick up her (resume/cover letter/networking email) today. She dropped it of on __________. Please let me know if you have it. Sincerely, Now what? Relax, not much will change really :). Bridget will serve as the interim office manager until the position is filled. Therefore, she will be taking over the majority of my responsibilities with Kelly's assistance. Here are a few changes & friendly reminders (if anything changes about what I listed here, I will update this post and email you): If you are running late to work Text/call/email Bridget (I emailed you her contact info at the beginning of the semester to save to your phone.) If you need shift coverage Please request it at least 24-48 hours in advance and CC Bridget Timesheets Email them to Bridget at [email protected] by Wednesday at 1 pm after this week. When you arrive for your shift Check in with Bridget first to catch up and see if any tasks need to be prioritized. During your shift Prioritize replying to emails (especially appointment requests) and new internships before working on social media and/or special projects Also, remember to check calendar for seminars. If you're working 2 hours before a seminar, you are responsible for prepping for it. Internship Profiles Bridget will review these and suggest edits. ProDevo This will continue. Special Projects K + B will let you know if they need help with one-time projects. I encourage you to propose ideas of how to promote the CDC using print flyers, office signs, bulletin boards, social media, word-of-mouth. Copy Runners Please check the folder and scan the office for supplies and copies that need to be refilled. Please double check if a master copy is double-sided and/or needs to be stapled. Do a test copy. Is the text cut off? Is the copier low on ink? etc. If so, please make the necessary adjustments. If handout copy and supply levels look good, then copy more Job Hunt Marathon packets and insert them in the MyCareer notebooks. Also, add more MyCareer notebooks to the cabinet. Hello CDC The blog will be on hiatus until further notice. Use this website as a resource if you're unsure of how to do something. I recommend reading previous blog posts for helpful information. Hire Me, CDC As of now, we will not be hiring for Spring 2014 however, that may change based on everyone's availability to work next semester. Finding an Internship Seminar Kelly and Bridget will take turns doing this. Another one of my favorite flight attendant moments ... |
